Six CT manufacturers receive $100K state matching grants for technology upgrades

Six Connecticut-based manufacturers with less than 300 employees will receive $100,000 state grants to adopt new technologies, Gov. Ned Lamont announced Wednesday.

The “additive technologies” will improve operations and drive innovation, such as high-end 3D metal printers for functional parts and tooling, and advanced plastic printing capabilities, the announcement says.

The companies will each provide a matching grant of an equal or greater amount.

The recipients are:

  • Advanced Manufacturing LLC, Windsor;
  • Airex Rubber Products Corp., Portland;
  • Integrated Illumination Systems Inc. (dba I2 Systems), Morris;
  • Mott Corp., Farmington;
  • TriMech Solutions LLC, Deep River;
  • West-Conn Tool and Die Inc., Shelton.

The competitive grants are from the Additive Manufacturing Adoption Program, part of the state’s Manufacturing Innovation Fund, which is administered by the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

Lamont said that manufacturing remains a high-growth sector nationwide.

“We want to do everything we can to ensure that Connecticut is at the forefront of the jobs and economic growth that it is delivering,” Lamont said. “This grant program is a way that we can partner with small manufacturers in our state to support their growth.”
 
New Britain-based AVNA, formerly Okay Industries, which produces medical devices, received a 2021 grant through the program. The company says it used the money to lower lead times for in-house tooling and prototyping processes.

“The adoption of 3D printing in our tool room has minimized downtime and bolstered overall throughput, enabling us to respond swiftly to the demands of our MedTech clientele,” said Jim DeVecchis, AVNA’s director of manufacturing engineering..
