Albertus Magnus College has selected John Ritchie to serve as its new director of public safety.
Ritchie, a Stratford resident, started in his new role on Feb. 22. He will lead all emergency and safety protocols on the college’s campus.
Ritchie has nearly three decades of public safety experience. He most recently served as district manager of the Stamford region at Securitas Security Services Inc. He has also been the assistant director of public safety at Fairfield University.
Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Andrew Foster said Ritchie has both knowledge and connections in the public safety field.
“As an Army veteran, he transitions unique leadership and organizational skills to this position,” Foster said.

Attorney joins Murtha Cullina’s litigation department
The law firm Murtha Cullina LLP recently welcomed Dan Sorger as an associate in its litigation department.
Sorger represents clients in a range of complex litigation matters. Prior to joining Murtha Cullina, Sorger served as an intern for Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island and as an extern for Justice Francis X. Flaherty of the Rhode Island Supreme Court.
The law firm has offices throughout Connecticut, including in New Haven, Hartford and Stamford, and in Massachusetts and New York.

Avangrid announces key leadership appointments
Avangrid Inc., an Orange-based energy company, has announced several senior executive appointments.
CEO Dennis V. Arriola said of the appointments, “We have a strong bench of talent and I am excited about the experience and new perspectives these leaders will bring to these roles.”
Kyra Patterson is the new senior vice president and chief human resources officer. Patterson has held a series of roles of increasing responsibility at Avangrid, most recently overseeing labor and employee relations and human resources policy and compliance.
Patricia Cosgel is appointed interim chief financial officer and will oversee treasury, control and administration, investor relations, risk and tax. Cosgel most recently served as vice president of investor relations.
Dave Labelle is appointed to the newly created role of chief administrative officer, and oversees procurement and corporate security functions as well as general services, which includes facilities and fleet management.
Alvaro Ortega is vice president of finance, responsible for risk and investor relations.
Nacho Arronte has been promoted to vice president and chief risk officer, with responsibility for the company’s risk registry and monitoring.

Wiggin and Dana appoints new chief people officer
The law firm of Wiggin and Dana announced that Susan Wertheim has joined its New Haven office in the newly-created role of chief people officer.
Wertheim joins the firm from Goodwin Procter, where she served as director, human resources business partners.
Timothy Diemand, the firm’s managing partner, said, “As we make progress towards our strategic goals, Susan will drive the human resources strategy development that is so critical to our growth.”
Wertheim will lead essential functions such as compensation, benefits, policy development, legal compliance, employee relations, and employee communications, and oversee and implement a comprehensive talent management strategy.
