Albertus offers scholarships to chamber affiliates

Demonstrating a creative flair for enrollment development as well as a laudable instinct for constructive corporate citizenship in time of crisis, Albertus Magnus College has introduced a new scholarship program for employees of chamber of commerce members.

Albertus’ Chamber Partners Scholarship Program makes available scholarships to employees of members of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, its Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce affiliate and the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce (AMC is a member of all of them). The scholarships will enable beneficiaries to take undergrad and (limited) graduate courses at the school to upgrade and/or develop new professional skills to help them and their employers navigate the crisis and emerge stronger and more resilient in the “new normal” of the post-COVID business world.

The limited scholarships are offered to new, non-matriculated adult students who can demonstrate financial hardship as a result of the pandemic and are affiliated with one of the school’s chamber partners. The scholarship will cover tuition for one Module 5, online course for qualified candidates. The program is confined to currently listed undergraduate courses (some 80 are available) and select graduate courses offered during Module 5 (May 26-July 18, 2020).

Graduate courses include six offerings from AMC’s MBA, MSA (master of science in accounting), MPA (master of public administration) and MSMOL (MS in management and organizational leadership) degree programs.

Candidates must meet all course requirements to qualify. Class sizes are limited, as is the scholarship pool. All courses for the balance of the academic year are online only.

AMC is motivated to build enrollment at a time when all institutions of higher learning are forced to mull the future of in-person education at all learning levels. The school is also acting as a forward-thinking member of the chambers of commerce to which it belongs (President Marc Camille sits on the GNHCC board of directors).

“We’re members for a reason,” Albertus vice president for enrollment management and marketing Andrea E. Kovacs told a chamber audience during a Thursday webinar on reopening Connecticut’s economy. “It’s like being part of a family and taking care of one another.”

But the time to act is now, as classes begin in scarcely two weeks (May 26). The online application is at albertus.edu/chamber-scholarship.

Additional information about the program is available from Anthony Reich, AMC’s admissions director for professional and graduate studies. He may be reached at 203-773-5032 or arreich@albertus.edu.
