Skip the calories and the alcohol with Athletic Lite, the latest offering from the Stratford-based Athletic Brewing.
Athletic, which has found success in the non-alcoholic craft brew market, debuted the new light beer on Monday. Athletic Lite boasts only 25 calories and 5 carbs. It’s also brewed with organic grains and is vegan.
Head Brewer John Walker said, “It turns out after many test batches we were able to perfect a recipe that we are very proud of: a crushable, refreshing, and great-tasting everyday brew for any occasion.”
A light beer was a top request of Athletic distributors, according to the company statement.
Co-founder Bill Shufelt said, “Many brewers and beer drinkers may have considered this an impossible mission – to brew a non-alcoholic beer that is low in calories and carbs, but also great tasting and refreshing.”
Helles marks Women’s History Month
Athletic Brewing also released a new brew this month to mark Women’s History Month, a special 2022 edition of its Trailblazer Helles-style beer. The beer features a hop blend that creates “a tropical fruit and balanced woody aroma, smooth and creamy coconut and peach flavors and a mild bitterness,” the company said.
The limited edition beer is on sale at AthleticBrewing.com and all profits will be donated to industry gender parity nonprofits including the Pink Boots Society, Ladies Who Launch, and the Women’s International Beer Summit.
Former brewer and current B-Corp Manager Cara Wilson said, “As a company, we are proud to re-release Trailblazer, and in my new role within the company, I am excited to help drive direct change in the brewing industry to be more inclusive for women and non-binary individuals.”
Athletic Brewing has embarked on a major growth plan, signing a lease last year on a 150,000-square-foot Milford property at 75 Cascade Blvd.
Fast Company Magazine named Athletic Brewing as one of the “Brands That Matter” in 2021, and the company was recognized as Craft Brewery of the Year by Brewbound.
With the bulk of its customers on the West Coast, Athletic set up a manufacturing facility in 2020 in San Diego, Calif., capable of producing as much as 150,000 barrels a year.
