Orange-based energy company Avangrid has appointed Puneet Verma to the role of vice president, federal government affairs.

In this role, Verma will be based in Washington, D.C. and will lead the government relations team by representing the company on federal regulatory and legislative issues.

CEO Dennis Arriola said Verma’s knowledge and background will help with the company’s goal of becoming a clean energy leader, particularly as it expands in the area of offshore wind.

Verma previously served as manager for federal government affairs for Chevron. He has served as chair of the American Petroleum Institute’s Environmental Advocacy Strategy Committee and co-chair of the Future Transportation and Fuels Subcommittee for the National Petroleum Council, an advisory committee to the Secretary of Energy.
