Avelo Airlines adds Palm Beach to destinations from New Haven

Liese Klein | New Haven Biz Avelo Airlines CEO Andrew Levy announces four new flights to Florida from Tweed airport starting Nov. 3, 2021.

Avelo Airlines has added Palm Beach to its roster of Florida destinations from Tweed New Haven Airport, the company announced Wednesday.

Starting Dec. 16, Avelo will offer a daily flight to Palm Beach International Airport leaving New Haven at 7 a.m., with a flight bound for New Haven leaving Palm Beach daily at 10:50 a.m.

The Palm Beach flights will operate daily until Jan. 4 and five days a week after that.

Introductory fares start at $59 each way, and passengers will fly on Avelo’s Boeing 737-700 planes.

Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “The addition of Palm Beach to Avelo’s portfolio of five sun-soaked Florida destinations demonstrates our commitment to providing Connecticut with the choice, convenience and value it wants.”

Avelo also announced it would increase the frequency of flights to Fort Myers and Tampa during the holiday season due to high demand. Flights will be offered daily from Dec. 16 through Jan. 4.

Tweed hosted a job fair on Sept. 10 that drew hundreds interested in working at the airport, which plans an expansion to accommodate Avelo flights. The airport upgrades would cost an estimated $100 million in total.

Tweed Executive Director Sean Scanlon said, “Avelo and our long-time operator Avports are already hiring local residents for new jobs at the airport in support of this increased activity. Together, we’re turning Tweed-New Haven into a more vibrant and sustainable airport.”
