Bartaco has informed state labor officials it’s temporarily laying off 190 employees at its restaurants in West Hartford, Westport and Stamford due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The restaurant chain, acquired last fall by Greenwich-based private equity firm L Catterton, in an April 1 notice filed with the state Department of Labor (DOL) said the health crisis has had an “unforeseen impact on our business.”
Bartaco employees, which have all been notified in person and in writing, are not part of a union, the notice says.
While there is still a statewide ban on dine-in service at restaurants and bars, Bartaco says it remains open for delivery and takeout.
Bartaco began operating at 971 Farmington Ave. in West Hartford in 2012. There are 22 Bartaco restaurants in 13 states.
DOL on Wednesday said it processed more than $35 million in unemployment benefits to nearly 104,000 people last week. The agency says it’s received 302,000 new unemployment claims since March 13.
