BioCT + MassBio = purchasing power of 1000s

Like sourpuss siblings and noxious neighbors everywhere, Connecticut and Massachusetts don’t always get along.

But there’s one area where the Bay and Nutmeg states can play nice. BioCT, Connecticut’s life-sciences industry group, has partnered with its Bay State equivalent, MassBio, to expand access to the latter’s member-savings program to members of the former.

Got it? That means the newly expanded New England Edge program will aggregate the purchasing power of both groups’ members so all may benefit from competitive discounts offered by suppliers and service providers.

“Partnering with MassBio to extend their New England Edge purchasing consortium agreement to BioCT members will maximize savings for our members so they can focus more time on research, not administrative tasks,” said Dawn Hocevar, president & CEO of BioCT. “This will also help build New England as a thriving bioscience/innovative region and help leverage funding for the growing companies and startups in our states.”

The original Purchasing Consortium was founded alongside MassBio in 1985 and has since grown apace, with 75 percent of members now participating in the program, saving each member company on average $100,000 a year, according to the group.

Participating vendors include the likes of office supplier W.B Mason, carrier shipper UPS and other service and supplier firms.

“MassBio’s Purchasing Consortium, now MassBio Edge, has been delivering incredible savings to MassBio members for decades, and we’re thrilled to extend these savings to life sciences companies across the New England region,” said Robert K. Coughlin, MassBio’s president & CEO, in a statement. “It’s ultimately up to state associations like MassBio and BioCT to support the most favorable business environment for biopharma companies to innovate and bring new therapies to patients.”

“Forming a unified region will give each organization more leverage to demand greater services and savings,” Coughlin added.

Formerly known as Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE), BioCT today represents more than 200 life-sciences and health-care companies, device developers and manufacturers, academic and financial institutions and service providers.

Individual BioCT memberships cost $200 annually, while annual corporate memberships start at $550, based on company size.
