Building supply company buys Hartford industrial building

Costar 235 Newfield Ave., Hartford.

The owners of a sheetrock supply company have purchased a Hartford industrial building for more than $1 million.

New York-based Mac-Lad Corp. bought the 22,788-square-foot building at 235 Newfield Ave. for $1.6 million from the owners of the Supply New England plumbing supply company based out of Attleboro, Mass.

The Mac-Lad company dates back to 1986, and has one location in Long Island, N.Y., and one location on Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor.

Mac-Lad delivers drywall and building supplies as far north as Vermont, and south to New Jersey as well as all of Connecticut and Long Island.

Supply New England occupied its only Connecticut location at this Hartford site for nearly 30 years before closing at the end of 2022, but the company remains operational in other states, according to broker Art Ross, of Newmark real estate services, who represented the seller in the April 19 deal.

Small-to-midsize, free-standing industrial spaces like the Newfield Avenue property are in high demand, Ross said, and sold for asking price.

The buyers were represented by Evan Berman, owner of Broder Commercial in West Hartford.

Berman said the new owners will make some minor modifications before moving into the building.

The Hartford property is close to Bradley International Airport and major interstates including I-84, I-91 and I-291. Corporate neighbors include Triumph, Colt, Legrand, DHL, Home Depot, Walmart, Aldi’s and BJ’s.

The property also has 28,000 square feet of potential outdoor storage or parking areas.
