Carmody law firm elevates three to partner

Three lawyers at the law firm Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey rose to the rank of partner as of Jan. 1.

The firm has more than 80 attorneys in offices in New Haven, Stamford, Waterbury, Litchfield and Southbury.

The new partners include:

Stephanie Cummings, who focuses on labor and employment law, corporate law, municipal law, real estate, general civil litigation and personal injury. Her clients include small businesses, municipalities, independent schools, institutions, nonprofits and individuals.

Janie McDermott 

Janie McDermott, who helps with establishment and operation of charitable organizations and family foundations. She also represents clients for estate and trust planning and administration, charitable giving and tax planning. She also works with utility companies on land use, title review and siting issues, including the preparation of regulatory filings for infrastructure projects. She also advises municipal commissions on land use issues, including wetlands and zoning matters.

Tamara Nyce 

Tamara Nyce, who handles healthcare law, medical liability and personal injury defense, and commercial litigation. She represents a range of clients, from individuals to healthcare providers, medical practice groups, hospitals, independent schools, ride-sharing corporations and businesses.

Managing Partner Rick Street said all three are “dedicated, smart lawyers who have made significant contributions to the firm and the communities where they live and work.”

Edgewell Personal Care appoints new accounting leader

Edgewell Personal Care Co. recently named Robert Schmidt as its new chief accounting officer.

Schmidt is based in the company’s Shelton office and reports directly to Chief Financial Officer Dan Sullivan. 

Schmidt is a certified public accountant who has previously had accounting and financial roles at companies such as ADC Therapeutics SA, Newell Brands Inc., Celgene Corporation, Tyco International and PricewaterhouseCoopers. 

Sullivan said of Schmidt, “With over 20 years of experience, Rob is a seasoned finance executive with a proven track record of creating value and leading complex, fast-paced organizations.”

Edgewell makes products such as Schick and Wilkinson Sword men's shaving products; Schick and Billie women's shaving products; Edge and Skintimate shave preparations; Playtex, Stayfree, Carefree and o.b. feminine care products; Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic, Bulldog, Jack Black and Cremo sun and skin care products, and Wet Ones moist wipes.
