Chamber honors area health and science innovators

The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce recently recognized some of the region’s top contributors in the health care and science industries.

The chamber hosted its 20th annual Regional Health Care and Life Sciences Awards July 13 at Anthony’s Ocean View. The event was presented by Yale New Haven Hospital.

Chamber President and CEO Garrett Sheehan lauded this year’s award winners.  

“The health care and life science industries are some of the New Haven region’s greatest assets,” Sheehan said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate these hardworking professionals and organizations, as they continue to make significant progress to address healthcare issues.”

Mary Wade President and CEO David Hunter received the “Industry Visionary” award. Hunter, who is celebrating 40 years at Mary Wade, was recognized for his work to inspire change and make advancements within the industry while engaging the public and private sectors.

The “Industry Superstar” award went to Erika Smith, CEO of ReNetX Bio, as a bioscience professional who not only has public appeal, but is also skilled in facilitating advancements within the industry.

Senior Vice President of Neuroscience & Platform Biology at Arvinas Dr. Angela Cacace received the “Bioscience Innovator” award. The award honors an individual who is cultivating change in the region by instituting new ideas, programs and services.

Healing Springs Wellness Center, of Cheshire, was bestowed the “Wellbeing/Wellness Program” award, for being a regional provider that has demonstrated a commitment to the community and patients through a comprehensive care services model.

Connecticut Orthopedic Institute at MidState Medical Center in Meriden received the “Clinical Program” award for coordinating a program that made a significant contribution during a specific health care crisis. 

Biohaven Pharmaceuticals was honored in the “Bioscience Company” category for its work in cultivating change in the region's health care industry by instituting new ideas, programs or services.
