Chamber partners with IKEA to offer grants to Black businesses

Black-owned businesses can apply for grants up to $6,000 under a new collaboration between the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the IKEA US Community Foundation.

Competitive grants from the IKEA US Community Foundation between $2,000 and $6,000 are aimed at helping Black-owned small businesses scale up their operations with investments like equipment purchases, technology and marketing. 

“There is such great need, and we understand that we will only be able to assist a handful of companies,” the Chamber said in a statement.

The IKEA grants can be used to leverage additional funding if the business is located in New Haven, East Haven, West Haven, Orange, Milford, Woodbridge, Bethany, Hamden, Cheshire, Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison, North Haven or Wallingford.

Applications must be submitted by email or postal mail by 11:59 p.m. of Aug. 1. To be considered for the grants, applicants meet criteria including:

  • Be a majority Black-owned, for-profit business 
  • Have between one and 50 employees
  • Have a business owner at least 18 years of age
  • Be in business for a minimum of one year
  • Have annual revenue of less than $1 million
