Chamber seeks to celebrate real-life health-care heroes

The Health Care & Life Sciences Council of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations for its 2020 Regional Health Care & Life Sciences Awards.

The awards are typically conferred during a  luncheon that takes place each spring. This year it is a bit of an irony that the global COVID-19 pandemic is forcing this celebration of those who enhance and sustain the lives of so many into the virtual sphere.

So be it: The actual “event” will take place on June 16 in the Zoomosphere. But first things first: The chamber seeks nominations of health-care heroes from members of the health-care, life-sciences and wider business community.

The scope of the awards program is appropriately broad, as befits New Haven’s role as a regional center for both applied health care and bioscience/pharmaceutical research.

Six awards will be presented to health-care companies, projects or organizations that have gone above and beyond to support individuals or organizations struggling during COVID-19 and encouraged wellness in their company or developed cutting edge technology to advance health care.

The award categories:

  • Manufacturing company or project
  • Health-care clinical program
  • Research company or project
  • Well-being/wellness program
  • Bioscience/life-sciences company
  • Non-profit organization

“Every year the Chamber recognizes outstanding health care professionals and organizations, but this year it’s more called for than ever,” said GNHCC President and CEO Garrett Sheehan. “We want to recognize all of the people who have stepped up in many ways to confront the COVID crisis.”

“We will also be spotlighting our region and the strong health care and life science industries that have grown here,” Sheehan added. “Having these assets has better positioned our region to respond.”

The nomination form is available HERE.

Nominations may be submitted by category to Glenn Archer at garcher@gnhcc.com no later than 5 p.m. this Wednesday, May 20.
