After announcing that it was closing in January, Chowder Pot of Hartford has set a date for its last day of business.

The seafood restaurant at 165 Brainard Road, which opened 30 years ago, will open its doors for the last time on March 25.

"While we had a good run at this location, it is time to say goodbye and look to do something different," the restaurant posted on Facebook. "What or where that is, we have not yet decided but we will let you know as soon as we do."

A Massachusetts-based cannabis company, Insa, has proposed to build a large marijuana cultivation facility and retail shop on the Brainard Road property, the Hartford Business Journal reported in January.

In March 2020, Chowder Pot of Hartford was among numerous restaurants that laid off employees during the pandemic following a government-mandated shutdown.

Chowder Pot filed a notice with the state Department of Labor that said it would lay off 95 of its workers. The restaurant reopened as shutdown orders were lifted.
