City seeks to survey damage to businesses

The city’s Economic Development Administration has embarked on a survey of New Haven businesses to gauge the extent of economic dislocation caused by the COVID-19 crisis and take measures to mitigate the damage.

The purpose of the exercise is to help document any economic injury and support the city’s efforts to petition the federal government for emergency aid.

“New Haven is collecting data from businesses to quickly assist [affected companies] through referrals, etc.,” said Kathleen Krolak, a project manager with the city.

The survey, which is available online, is designed to help officials assess the impact of the coronavirus crisis on city businesses.

Clay Williams, the city’s small business officer, is collecting the surveys.

The survey asks business owners when the economic impact was first felt, the extent to which the company’s revenues declined compared to a “normal” business period, if any employees have been furloughed or laid off, and whether the company carries business-interruption insurance.

The survey further asks what kinds of services and assistance would be of most immediate help to the company. Businesses can fill out the survey HERE

Completed and printed forms may be e-mailed to cwilliams@newhavenct.gov.
