Just over 14,000 Eversource Energy customers in Connecticut were without power this morning as the utility continued repairs and service restoration work amid rain and occasional high winds.

According to Eversource’s real-time outage map, about 14,006 customers were experiencing service interruptions as of 9:40 a.m. Outage rates ran higher in eastern communities such as Brooklyn, Canterbury, Coventry, Ellington, Franklin, Hampton and Tolland.

Eversource dispatched crews to carry out preemptive tree-trimming ahead of Tuesday’s storm and said it was prepared to call in workers from out of state if the damage warranted it.

An Eversource spokesman told Fox-61 earlier this week that the company was readying for up to 125,000 customer outages and had contractors on stand-by to clean up fallen trees and other debris and repair power lines.

The spokesman also said the utility has deployed smart switches to help isolate trouble spots in the power infrastructure.

In social media postings, Eversource provided on-the-ground updates from repair efforts in Brooklyn, East Haddam, New Canaan and other communities and urged residents to stay away from downed power lines and report them through 911.
