ClimateHaven, a New Haven-based climate tech incubator and makerspace, has appointed an industry veteran to serve as its new CEO.

The organization announced Thursday it had selected Ryan Dings for the leadership role.

Dings’ background includes serving as the chief operating officer and general counsel of Greentown Labs, a climate technology incubator in Somerville, Mass. He had previously had the same role for Sunwealth, a solar investment fund.

In December 2022, Dings joined Connecticut Innovations as a venture partner in its new $100 million dollar ClimateTech Fund.

ClimateHaven will provide incubation space, accelerator programming, networking and partners for startup ventures, with a goal of addressing global warming.

“We don’t have every solution needed today to meet the challenges presented by climate change, which is why supporting climate-tech entrepreneurship is so critical for helping us get to carbon neutrality,” Dings said.

ClimateHaven said it would support climate-related entrepreneurs from Yale University and beyond, and help them grow to potentially have a global impact.

Josh Geballe, chairperson of ClimateHaven’s board of directors and managing director of Yale Ventures, said of Dings, “His commitment to entrepreneurship and experience in climate technology and finance will be invaluable as we build the foundation of this organization.”

ClimateHaven has executed a lease on 10,000 square feet of office and prototyping space at MakeHaven, at 770 Chapel St., New Haven. It has an option to expand to approximately 30,000 square feet there.

New Haven-based architecture firm Atelier Cho Thompson is assisting in the design and space modification. Work in the new space is continuing through this spring, with the first startups expected to arrive this summer. A grand opening event is planned for the fall.

ClimateHaven plans to preview its plans for the upcoming year at the Connecticut Climate Tech Social Kickoff on March 29, in partnership with Connecticut Innovations. At the event, Dings plans to share his vision for the organization and opportunities for involvement.
