Connex Credit Union names new CFO, VP of Finance

Connex Credit Union has hired David Birkins to serve as its new chief financial officer and vice president of finance.
 
Birkins joined the North Haven-based Connex on March 28. He reports directly to President and CEO Frank Mancini.

In his new role, Birkins is responsible for managing the accounting and finance, indirect lending, compliance and collections departments.

Birkins has a lengthy background in the financial services sector, and he most recently served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank. He has also had executive roles at Claremont Savings Bank and Union Savings Bank.

“Dave’s success and experience as a CFO, his financial expertise and his leadership qualities will be an invaluable addition to the team,” Mancini said.
 
Connex is one of the state’s largest credit unions and serves more than 65,000 members from eight branches.

Quinnipiac gets new dean for School of Computing and Engineering

Taskin Kocak, new dean of Quinnipiac University’s School of Computing and Engineering

Taskin Kocak has been appointed dean of the School of Computing and Engineering at  Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

Kocak also will serve as a professor of computer science.

He is currently dean of the Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering and a professor in computer and electrical engineering at the University of New Orleans. He will start working at Quinnipiac on June 30.

Provost Debra Liebowitz said Kocak has leadership experience in computing and engineering which will be “invaluable” at Quinnipiac.

During his career, he has increased retention and enrollment, expanded student scholarships and increased student diversity, according to Liebowitz. He has also been involved in expanding degree and certificate programs and industry partnerships.

“I look forward to working with President Judy Olian, Provost Liebowitz, the rest of the leadership team and my colleagues in the school in the next phase of growth in computing and engineering programs,” Kocak said.
