Counter Weight Brewing partners with Modern Apizza on new lager

There’s something new on tap at Counter Weight Brewing in Cheshire.

Counter Weight and Modern Apizza recently teamed up to create a new American-style lager called “A Modern Classic.”

The new beer is brewed in the pre-Prohibition lager style, with a portion of flaked corn in the recipe to give the beer a bit of sweetness.

The result, according to a message Counter Weight posted to its Facebook page is “a wonderfully easy-drinking beer with subtle malt and corn sweetness, balanced by a delicate Saaz and Hallertau mittelfrüh hops.”

The lager contains 4.9% ABV (alcohol by volume) and the company says it pairs perfectly with pizza.

That was the idea behind Counter Weight coming together with Modern Apizza. Plus, the folks at Counter Weight say they are big fans of the pizza giant, located on State Street in New Haven since 1934.

“We’re so excited and honored to have collaborated with an iconic Connecticut business that we absolutely love,” Counter Weight posted on its Facebook page. “Since 1934, Modern Apizza has been serving amazing apizza and is a must-visit when in and around New Haven.”

Andrew Martelli, coordinator of economic development & grant writing for the town of Cheshire, was excited to see the partnership happen.

“Bringing together two New Haven County-born businesses to create another delicious offering – what could be better than this?” Martelli said. “We should never take for granted the ingenuity and uniqueness of our local businesses.”

A Modern Classic will be released and available while supplies last at Counter Weight’s five-year anniversary party, scheduled for Saturday, July 23, at the business’ beer hall, at 7 Diana Court, Cheshire.

A Modern Classic will also be available on draft and in cans to-go at Modern Apizza, located at 874 State St., starting Friday.
