Andrew Julien, the editor-in-chief and publisher of The Hartford Courant, has been named executive editor of the New York Daily News, the Courant reported Friday, citing an announcement from Tribune Publishing.

Julien has headed the Daily News’ editorial department on an interim basis since September, when he replaced Robert York.

“I am honored, humbled and thrilled,” Julien said, according to the Courant. “The New York Daily News is a vital and vibrant part of the media landscape that hums each day with stories and photographs that engage and inform readers in the city and across the nation.”

Both the Courant and the Daily News operate under Tribune Publishing, which was acquired by New York-based hedge fund Alden Global Capital earlier this year.

Julien has been with the Courant for 30 years, holding various positions, including reporter, editor and eventually vice president and publisher.

According to The Hartford Courant, MediaNews Group Regional Publisher Kevin Corrado will take over business operations at the Courant on an interim basis and begin the search for a new editor.
