CPA group to host inaugural women’s awards

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA) will honor four female CPAs for distinguished service and three female CPAs as “Women to Watch” as part of the group’s first-ever CTCPA Women’s Awards Breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 22) at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. 

The “Distinguished Service” honorees are:

  • Susan A. Martinelli, CPA, of Southington, New Haven office leader and assurance partner for RSM US LLP.
  • Mary R. Gilhuly, CPA, of North Haven, executive vice president and CFO at Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA) in New Britain.
  • Marcia L. Marien, CPA, of Middletown, finance director/controller for the Town of Brookfield.
  • Vanessa Rossitto, CPA, of East Haddam, partner and industry leader of the  Government Services Group at Blumshapiro, West Hartford.

The CTCPA’s “Women to Watch” include:

  • Mary Santella Connolly, CPA, of Fairfield, audit & assurance senior manager at Deloitte & Touche LLP in Stamford.
  • Katherine Donovan, CPA, of Bloomfield, assurance manager at Whittlesey in Hartford.
  • Ilona Gooley, CPA, of West Hartford, senior manager in the Hartford office of Andersen. Hartford.

CTCPA Executive Director Bonnie Stewart said her group created the awards program “to recognize the many contributions that CPA women professionals are making in Connecticut. As the first female executive director of the CTCPA, I have a personal perspective on diversity.” 

Stewart added, “Diversity does not merely tolerate our differences; diversity celebrates our differences.” 

The keynote speaker for Wednesday morning’s event will be Teresa S. Polley, CPA, retired president and CEO of the Financial Accounting Foundation, the parent organization of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
