CT high school graduation rate shows slight improvement

Connecticut's high school graduation rate showed slight improvement between 2018 and 2019, with 88.5% of students graduating in four years, a 0.2% increase over the previous year's cohort.

Additionally, a statement from the state Department of Education said, the four-year graduation rate for English language learners in the 2018-to-2019 cohort was 80.4%, a 2.5% increase from the previous year.

"Achieving a record-high graduation rate is a sign that we are headed in the right direction,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “The COVID-19 pandemic has reaffirmed that a strong PK-12 system is our state’s best economic driver and we will continue to build on our successes to ensure that all students graduate prepared to strengthen our workforce."

The results are part of the Next Generation Accountability System, which tracks 12 indicators of how well a school is preparing its students for success in college, careers and life. Indicators include aspects like academic growth, college and career readiness and graduation rates.
