Aetna parent CVS Health has announced plans to open a dozen new COVID-19 test sites at existing drive-thru locations across Connecticut, including two in Hartford.

The Rhode Island-based pharmacy giant said the drive-thru sites will debut Friday utilizing self-swab tests for individuals meeting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria.

According to CVS’ COVID-19 testing protocols, patients must register online in advance to schedule an appointment, which will be conducted in their cars. Tests will be sent to an independent lab for processing and the results will be available in roughly three days.

In Hartford, CVS said drive-thru testing will be available at the 150 Washington St. and 479 Blue Hills Ave. locations.

Other new CVS testing locations include:

  • CVS Pharmacy, 7 Durant Ave., Bethel
  • CVS Pharmacy, 905 South Main St., Cheshire
  • CVS Pharmacy, 3514 Main St., Coventry
  • CVS Pharmacy, 54 East High St., East Hampton
  • CVS Pharmacy, 875 Enfield St., Enfield
  • CVS Pharmacy, 2639 Main St., Glastonbury
  • CVS Pharmacy, 1057 Boston Post Road, Guilford
  • CVS Pharmacy, 323 Cromwell Ave., Rocky Hill
  • CVS Pharmacy, 525 Buckland St., South Windsor
  • CVS Pharmacy, 1 Hawley Lane, Stratford

The new Connecticut test centers are part of CVS’ larger COVID-19 testing strategy to have up to 1,000 testing locations nationwide by the end of May. CVS has set a goal of processing up to 1.5 million tests a month. The dozen test sites in Connecticut are included in a rollout of new drive-thru testing also opening in 51 locations in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Florida and Arizona.

“While the large-scale test sites we’ve been operating since early April have proven successful, this new approach allows us to utilize our presence in communities across the country and bring testing closer to home,” CVS CEO and President Larry J. Merlo, President said in a statement.

“Our frontline employees will continue to play a critical role in the testing process, with members of their communities directly benefiting from their dedication and selflessness.”

On Wednesday evening, the state said a total of 142,943 people have been tested for COVID-19. That includes more than 4,100 reported tests in the previous 24 hours.

In total, there are 34,855 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,125 COVID-19-related deaths in Connecticut.

Gov. Ned Lamont, who said Wednesday his first test for COVID-19 infection was negative, in a statement Thursday applauded CVS for ramping up its testing capacity in Connecticut.

“Increasing the amount of testing that’s being done and expanding the accessibility of that testing to all communities is a critical component of our efforts to keep Connecticut safe and healthy,” Lamont said. “Public-private partnerships like this will only strengthen our state in the fight against COVID-19.”
