Connecticut's Department of Consumer Protection added movement disorders associated with Huntington Disease to the list of conditions that qualify patients for medical cannabis.

DCP on Wednesday announced it accepted a recommendation from the Medical Marijuana Program Board of Physicians to include disorders associated with Huntington, a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain.

"I’m pleased with how our program has grown to support almost  54,000 current patients with severe debilitating conditions in the state," DCP Commissioner Michelle Seagull said. "We look forward to working with the Board of Physicians to ensure the integrity of our medical program continues even with the expansion of adult-use cannabis in Connecticut.”

Seagull, who will serve as the primary regulator of the adult-use cannabis industry, has predicted Connecticut's retail cannabis market will go online by the end of the 2022 calendar year.
