Detect teams up with virtual health network on COVID care

If your COVID-19 test from Guilford-based Detect comes up positive, you now have the option to connect with a virtual health network from home that can prescribe you antiviral treatments, the company announced Tuesday.

Detect, which launched its at-home COVID test online last year, teamed up with Carbon Health, a San Francisco-based healthtech company, to offer the new “Test to Treat at Home” program. Those who test positive can consult via telehealth with a provider and get prescriptions for antiviral drugs including Paxlovid or Molnupiravir, according to the company.

Carbon Health’s telehealth network, covered by most insurance plans, can be accessed from Detect’s app to schedule appointments and follow-up care. Patients can get their prescriptions directly from a Carbon Heath clinic or choose same-day pickup or delivery via a nearby pharmacy. (Carbon Healths’ nearest dedicated clinics are located in New York City.)

Detect CEO Hugo Barra said, “By combining our PCR-quality home test with Carbon Health's strong national healthcare network, we can accelerate and expand access to Covid-19 care and antiviral treatment.”

Detect, founded by local entrepreneur Jonathan Rothberg, announced in February that it had won a $30 million federal contract to develop a combined COVID-19 and flu test
