The pandemic and cold weather have prompted many would-be diners to stay home, but a new promotion aims to lure more people to city restaurants.
The city of New Haven has combined forces with Market New Haven Inc. to launch a new winter dining promotion, dubbed “New Haven To Go!”
It starts on Sunday, Feb. 21 and lasts through Thursday, Feb. 25.
Participating New Haven restaurants will offer to-go dinners priced at $20.21 (per person). Charges for beverages, tax, tips and delivery are extra.
Michael Piscitelli, the city’s economic development administrator, said many small businesses and restaurants are struggling due to both COVID-19 and winter weather.
The state’s rules regarding reduced capacity inside restaurants continue to negatively impact eateries, and outdoor dining only helped alleviate this burden in the warmer months.
“It is more important than ever to support our restaurants that help to make New Haven the ‘foodie capital’ of Connecticut,” Piscitelli said. “We are pleased to collaborate with Market New Haven on this opportunity to help local restaurants in neighborhoods all around the city.”
The promotion is designed to boost restaurant sales. Customers will benefit from special menus and reduced prices, officials said.
Bruno Baggetta, acting director for Market New Haven Inc., said he is excited to see the promotion come to fruition, as it will help support local businesses.
“This promotion is an opportunity for folks to take a night off from cooking, to try something new and enjoy a delicious meal at home,” Baggetta said.
Local officials have had other restaurant promotions in recent months, which featured set menus. For this latest effort, the “New Haven To Go!” menus are designed at the discretion of chefs.
The 31 restaurants participating so far include:
