A new development, Eighteen High at New Haven Towers, which will feature retail space at ground level and 132 luxury apartments, is expected to open in the second quarter of 2021.
The building is at 18 High St., on the corner of High and Crown streets in New Haven, close to Yale University. The construction project is on schedule in spite of the coronavirus pandemic.
Edward Anderson, leasing manager of New Haven Towers, said the project’s construction “not only creates economic growth but strengthens the city’s quality of life.”
The street-level retail space includes 10,542 square feet on Crown Street, which can be subdivided.
Laura Leeds, a commercial real estate broker with Simon David Real Estate, said Monday the retail space is “getting a lot of interest,” but it is too soon to announce any tenants.
The residential apartments on the upper floors will include studio, one and two bedroom units. The development includes a below-grade parking garage, a gym, lounge, co-working space and 5,000-square-foot rooftop lounge.
Officials hope the project will attract tenants due to its proximity not only to Yale University, but also the university’s law school, Yale Medical Center, and Yale's Drama and Art School.
“We view Eighteen High at New Haven Towers as a vital and synergistic part of the City of New Haven and the educational and cultural institutions that surround our project,” Anderson said.
