Fans of Nashville-style spicy chicken will soon have another place in the area to get their fix. Downtown New Haven eatery Haven Hot Chicken is expanding.

The restaurant announced in a Facebook post this week that it’s secured a lease for a second location in Orange.

“It may not look like much right now, but we’ll keep y’all updated on the progress as we work toward opening,” the Facebook post said.

The restaurant with the fire-breathing chicken for a logo opened its first location at 21 Whitney Ave. in New Haven last October.

The new eatery will take up 1,400 square feet of the former Bertucci’s restaurant at 550 Boston Post Road, co-owner Etkin Tekin said in a phone interview. Mission BBQ is planning to open in the other half of the building, which is located in the same plaza as Trader Joe’s.

The owners are working closely with the landlord and are planning a late summer opening, he said.

“We felt that the Boston Post Road would increase the level of visibility and access so we can sell more hot chicken to more of our fans,” Tekin  said, adding that the location also has ample parking and is near other shopping destinations.

The restaurant’s menu features a variety of combo meals, including boneless chicken sandwiches and tenders, as well as its “Not Chicken Sandwich” -- a fried cauliflower option -- for vegetarians.

Customers can choose from five different spice levels, and sides include collard greens, banana pudding, slaw, pickles and french fries.

Like the original, the new restaurant will focus on takeout and delivery.

“We’ve really been humbled by the level of interest and how much people like our food,” Tekin said.
