East Windsor-based Collins Cos., which distributes pipe, valves, fittings and engineered specialties, has acquired a Massachusetts valve repair company.

Paul Andruszkiewicz, Collins’ vice president of sales, said the acquisition of Springfield-based International Valve and Instrument Corp. (IVI), which has 23 employees, will be a boon to both companies.

“About half (our customers) are new to IVI, and about half the customers that IVI currently holds would be new customers for us, so it’s a great cross-pollenization for both companies,” Andruszkiewicz said.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t released.

Collins, which has about 80 employees, also owns Power House Supply in Newburyport, Mass., and seven other companies across the Northeast, Andruszkiewicz said. Its main customers include chemical, paper and power companies.

Collins President Brian Tuohey said the move will enable growth within its sector.

“With the acquisition of IVI, we will now be able to expand the services that we can offer to the marketplace through the significant capabilities of this great company,” Tuohey said.
