During these trying times good ideas to help sustain beleaguered businesses don’t have to be big to be good.
The economic-development non-profit Wallingford Center Inc. has come up with restaurant promotion that may be modest in terms of dollars, but passes the common-sense test.
Called “Eat Local & Win in Wallingford,” the promotion, which began April 10 and continues through May 8, is targeted at local companies that may be showing additional appreciation (additional, that is, on top of paying them) to their employees by providing breakfast or lunch once or twice a week.
It’s simple: Spend at least $15 at a local restaurant, send your receipt to Wallingford Center Inc. and be automatically entered into a raffle to win a $25 gift card to one of the approximately 50 participating Wallingford eateries that have remained open during the coronavirus crisis.
Then, when you win, you’ll spend that $25, too — and everybody wins, right? It’s called baking a bigger pie. (Sorry.)
“Please consider supporting our locally owned food-service partners,” urged town Economic Development Director Tim Ryan. “They need us now more than ever.”
The idea for the promotion was “borrowed” from Chris Edge, economic development director for the town of Berlin, according to Ryan. It is a joint project of Wallingford Center Inc. and the Wallingford Economic Development Corp.
Entrants should write their name, phone number and e-mail on the receipt. For more information, visit the non-profit's website HERE or e-mail info@wallingfordcenterinc.com. Receipts can be sent to the WCI office at 128 Center Street.
