Eight more businesses joining Oxford’s Quarry Walk

The bustling Quarry Walk development in Oxford will be home to even more eateries and businesses in the coming months.

Haynes Development’s Quarry Walk is a mixed-use residential, retail and commercial space on Oxford Road.

Kathy Ekstrom of Haynes Development said this week she could confirm eight more businesses will soon be opening at the site.

This includes Window Treatments Unlimited and Rydzik & Rydzik CPA, both slated to open in June. Between June and July, Griffin Faculty Health, Rose Insurance Co. and the Wellness Center of Oxford will join the line-up. Over the summer, visitors to the complex can enjoy two new eateries, including the Sitting Duck Tavern and “Shake This,” a smoothie and juice bar. Tea with Tracy is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to Ekstrom.

The new Wellness Center of Oxford, which offers counseling services, will be at 350 Center Rock Green, Suite 9.

Wellness Center CEO Michael Allen said multiple established therapists from the area are coming together to work at the new center.

“It’s a new development area and the surroundings are appealing to people who want to go and shop and eat at the restaurants,” Allen said, when asked why they chose this location. “It reaches a lot of people and is appealing as you drive by.”

The wellness center is about four weeks away from having a ribbon cutting to mark its opening, according to Allen.

As for the new Sitting Duck Tavern, area residents may be familiar with its fare, as there are Sitting Duck Taverns in Stratford and Trumbull. The business’ management decided to add a third location in Oxford. The restaurants offer an array of salads, burgers and sandwiches, like the “Sitting Duck Burger” and the “Lobster Club.” Work is still underway on the restaurant’s new space.

Tea with Tracy, now in downtown Seymour, serves over 220 variations of tea, sandwiches, desserts and coffee. The business regularly hosts afternoon tea, bridal showers and parties.

Joel Tenpenny, co-owner of the business with his wife Tracy, said they are adding a second location by opening in Oxford, as they will keep their Seymour spot, too.

“This is an expansion for us,” Tenpenny said. “We are not moving — we will have two locations. We do a lot of bridal showers, and currently our [seating] cap is at about 45 people. With the Oxford location, we will be able to host up to 75 or 80 people. There will also be ample parking, so it is a good fit.”

Their goal is to open Tea with Tracy in Oxford around December, he said.

At Shake This’ new spot in the development, signs are up announcing that the space is leased and the business will be coming soon. The 23-year-old “Shake This” business started in a health club in Missouri, and has spread to about 350 locations around the country. It offers customers a range of freshly made shakes and smoothies.
