As businesses and workers try to survive the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, programs available through the New Haven-based Workforce Alliance can help.
The alliance is currently recruiting employers for a program which reimburses them for up to 75 percent of wages. Employers must provide on-the-job training to new hires in full-time permanent positions filled by individuals who lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
William Villano, alliance president and CEO, said it is responding to the crisis in several ways to both provide support and connect businesses and workers.
“This initiative addresses an immediate need and removes common financial barriers faced by employers who want to rebuild their workforce,” Villano said in an announcement.
The alliance is also looking for non-profit organizations, public entities, small and minority-owned businesses to host temporary workers and interns. The alliance will pay these workers directly. The workers gain experience, while the participating employers get short-term help. Those performing humanitarian or disaster-relief jobs may be in place until as late as June 2021.
Alliance staff can work with employers to determine which option best suits their needs.
Interested employers should contact Workforce Alliance’s Business Services Coordinator Wanda Lary at 203-867-4030 x 254.
