Hartford HealthCare is expanding its fledgling university health services program to eastern Connecticut.

HHC announced Wednesday that it will provide on-campus health care to students and student athletes at Connecticut College in New London.

It’s the third such arrangement HHC has forged in the past year, following similar agreements with Trinity College and the University of Hartford.

The health system calls the initiative the Campus Care Program, which now serves 8,000 students and 1,300 students athletes.

The latest Campus Care partnership, which begins next month, provides students with increased service hours, a larger network of specialists, and access to its medical records system, HHC said.

“The vision is both to elevate the level of service and to integrate student health and well-being across the college,” the health system said in a statement.

Financial terms of the agreement with Connecticut College were not disclosed, but Trinity College told HBJ last year that controlling costs was a factor in its partnership with HHC, which also involved approximately 15 healthcare employees on the college’s payroll switching to employment by HHC’s medical group.

One new aspect of the third such arrangement for HHC is a focus on mitigating COVID-19 risks.

HHC infectious disease experts will help the college implement new safety protocols and monitor the overall health of the student population.
