Hyperfine names new director of clinical informatics

Hyperfine Research Inc. of Guilford announced Dr. Khalil Salman has joined the company as its new director of clinical informatics.

Salman, a radiologist and former surgeon, will be responsible for working with users of the company’s portable magnetic resonance imaging system, or Swoop. 

Salman said Hyperfine is forcing those in clinical practice to “rethink what’s possible, both inside the patient room and across the world.”

“In joining Hyperfine, I get to practice medicine on a global scale by transforming healthcare and democratizing MR imaging everywhere,” Salman said. 

In his new role, he will be working closely with clinicians and the Hyperfine team to develop ways to integrate Swoop into clinical workflows.

Before joining Hyperfine, Salman served as assistant professor of medical imaging and director of medical imaging informatics at the University of Arizona and Banner Health.

Long-time real estate pro named chamber’s Woman of the Year for 2020

Nanette Pastore, president of Pearce Real Estate in North Haven, was named Woman of the Year for 2020 by the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce at the 2020 Women's Achievement Awards Virtual Celebration in January.

Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz was the guest speaker at this year’s event, which honored seven local women.

Pastore, of North Haven, has been with Pearce Real Estate since 1993 in various roles. Pastore was nominated for the award by Barbara Pearce, chair and CEO of Pearce Real Estate.

“She’s just what you want every female executive to be,” Pearce said. “Every time I push her outside her comfort zone, she succeeds. When she takes something on, she does it with her whole heart.” 

Pastore was promoted to president when Pearce withdrew from the daily operations of the company to work at Connecticut Hospice. That left Pastore to run both the residential and commercial divisions as well as manage all of the staff and daily operations.

Quinnipiac leader elected fellow of American College of Tax Counsel

Sara V. Spodick, director of the tax clinic at the Quinnipiac University School of Law, has been elected a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.

The nonprofit professional association recognizes tax lawyers in private practice, law school faculty and government for their contributions and commitment to the profession.

School of Law Dean Jennifer Gerarda Brown said of Spodick, “Through her passionate and thoughtful advocacy for clients in our low-income tax clinic, she has improved the lives of her clients and also has served as a wonderful role model to students enrolled in the clinic. Now she will bring that same passionate and thoughtful approach to the American College of Tax Counsel as it pursues its mission to promote sound tax policy and improve the tax system.”

The American College of Tax Counsel provides input into the development of tax laws.

Fellows must be nominated by their peers for the honor, satisfy the established criteria and pass a screening process before being elected. The college, which is composed of approximately 800 fellows, is governed by a 19-member Board of Regents.

“I look forward to participating in the meaningful work of the American College of Tax Counsel,” Spodick said.

Spodick, who joined the law school in 2004, earned her law degree at Quinnipiac.
