Insurer: 30 percent of CT motorists admit to texting

In a survey by Plymouth Rock Assurance, 30 percent of Connecticut drivers admitted to reading or sending text messages while driving.

That puts Connecticut well ahead of New Hampshire, where Plymouth said 22 percent of drivers admitted to texting, but behind Massachusetts, where 40 percent said they text and drive.

In Connecticut — where state law requires hands-free accessories to use cell phones or other devices — drivers aged 17 to 44 were nearly four times more likely to text and drive as older motorists.

Drivers text most frequently at stop signs or traffic lights, and males were more likely to text than other groups.
