Those in the U.S. Armed Forces have a new way to give money for charitable purposes.

The Knights of Columbus Charitable Fund has teamed up with the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA to launch both organizations’ first diocesan private-label donor-advised fund.

KCCF President Dennis Gerber said the organization is excited to collaborate with the archdiocese.

“We work in a faith-based environment, and part of the job is the ministry of philanthropy,” he said. “From the organization’s standpoint, it is great to work with donors in a different way.”

According to Gerber, it provides a secure giving platform to allow donors to “take their giving to the next level.”

The KCCF, an independent 501(c)3 public charity, is providing the necessary technology and ensures the recipient charities align with Catholic doctrine, according to Shari Smith, communications manager, insurance and investments for the Knights of Columbus.

The New Haven-based Knights are a Catholic fraternal service organization with nearly two million members worldwide.

Through a donor-advised fund, benefactors can give money to charitable organizations. They also may be able to obtain an immediate tax benefit whenever they contribute to the fund.

Timothy Broglio, archbishop for the Military Services USA, said the new donor-advised fund will provide an “important new philanthropic giving vehicle” to benefit its mission and ministry as well as other organizations with “missions in line with Catholic teachings.”

“I am deeply grateful to the Knights ... for introducing yet another way for the faithful to support pastoral care for the Catholic men and women who serve our nation in uniform, and their families,” Broglio said in an announcement.

Established in 1985, the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA provides for the pastoral care of Catholics in the armed forces and military academies, or undergoing treatment at Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
