Lake Compounce in Bristol, which has seen its usual summer season debut stalled for more than a month due to the COVID-19 outbreak, says it will open in three weeks.
On Tuesday, the amusement park announced it will welcome season passholders on July 1, and all other guests starting July 6.
Officials said Tuesday that the venue will operate at limited capacity and is implementing numerous other safety measures to protect visitors from potential exposure to COVID-19. Lake Compounce didn't say how much it would limit capacity, but the state's newly released rules indicate that outdoor amusement parks will be limited to 25% capacity or lower.
The park will require guests to register ahead of time for the date they plan to visit the park, promote social distancing and require touch-free payments. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, except children under the age of two and those with a valid medical condition, park officials said.
All guests, suppliers and employees entering park grounds will have their temperatures scanned, and any person with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher or showing other symptoms of COVID-19 will be denied entry.
“In these unprecedented times, we have implemented enhanced health and safety measures to help protect everyone," the park said in its announcement. "But we can’t do it alone. We are counting on everyone’s efforts to do their part by cooperating with these new measures that are designed to keep every person visiting and/or working at Lake Compounce healthy and safe."
As previously reported, Lake Compounce also pushed back the debut of its new Venus Vortex ride until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The six-story raft ride is designed to resemble the mouth of a hungry venus flytrap, and is located in the park’s Crocodile Cove water park.
It was expected to be a large draw for the amusement park once its water park opened on Memorial Day weekend.
