Former UCONN Husky star Maria Conlon is hoping her new establishment offering Connecticut-made wine, beer, spirits and small bites becomes a “steady habit” for all.

Conlon, along with several business partners, recently opened Steady Habits Tasting Lounge, located on Shelton’s waterfront at 320 Howe Ave. Libations from various Connecticut breweries, wineries and distilleries, along with small bites with ingredients sourced directly from local farms, are featured all under one roof. An official ribbon cutting and celebration took place on June 17.

“There are so many great breweries, wineries and distilleries in Connecticut making really wonderful products,” Conlon said. “Most of our partners are born and raised in Connecticut, and a couple of us are UCONN graduates, and we have so much pride for our state. What sets us apart is that we feature products from these places. Our tasting lounge brings all of these great beers, wines and liquors to one location - on a rotational basis - for patrons to have accessibility to try all that Connecticut has to offer.”

Conlon said a new specialty cocktail will be featured every weekend, and beer, wine and liquor tasting flights will give patrons a chance to try various beverages. Locally grown food will make up a small bites menu, and feature, in part, a ‘build your own’ grilled cheese with pepper jelly, flavorful popcorn bowls and veggie ‘martinis.’

Some of the beers currently on tap hail from Alvarium of New Britain and Beer’d of Stonington, while some of the wines on the menu come from Hawk Ridge of Watertown, and Jones Winery of Shelton. The distilleries currently in stock include Litchfield Distillery of Litchfield and SoNo 1420 of South Norwalk. 5th State Distillery of Bridgeport will be a staple on the menu as the “house” vodka and gin.

Conlon, along with partners Lee and Erik Antonetz, Cristina Conlon, Danielle Diaz, Luigi DiPalma and Stacey Nasser, encouraged folks to stop by. Whether relaxing on a comfy couch in the lounge area, watching “Friends” or “Schitt’s Creek” (both on rotation) or the big game, Conlon said people will feel right at home.

“People should make our place a steady habit in their daily lives because we have something that appeals to everyone,” Conlon said. “There’s nothing better than good food, good drinks, good people, all while supporting all of the wonderful Connecticut-made products.”

Greater Valley of Chamber Commerce President Bill Purcell couldn’t agree more.

“Maria Conlon has brought her star power as a UCONN Husky basketball great, coach, mentor and entrepreneur in creating this unique concept,” Purcell said. “Steady Habits is a wonderful place to celebrate the genius of Connecticut-grown libations and farm products.”

Steady Habits is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday-Friday; 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday. They are closed Monday-Wednesday. They are located on the ground level of Cedar Village at the Carroll Apartment Complex, at 320 Howe Ave. The lounge is available for hosting bridal and baby showers and private parties, too.
