Oxford’s Aeroturn adds facial recognition to its turnstiles

Oxford-based Aeroturn has added biometrics including facial recognition to its turnstiles at multiple locations, the company announced Wednesday.

Responding to customer concerns about security and safety, the turnstile manufacturer has adapted its products to develop what it calls “the nation’s first complete and customized biometric credential access control system.”

Aeroturn worked with its security integrator partner, Siemens, and a French-based facial recognition and biometric identification company to create the product

For military base clients, Aeroturn has also developed a hybrid touchless system, the company said. Another new product is an 82-inch barrier to prevent climb-over security threats at turnstiles. 

Michael Stoll, Aeroturn’s VP of technical sales & marketing, said, “It is extremely important for the turnstile manufacturers to be able to integrate to new security technology and be just as reliable if not more than the traditional physical access-control expectations.”

Founded in 2001, Aeroturn provides turnstiles and access-control services to sectors including commercial, private, government, industrial, biopharma and education. 

In the wake of the Newtown school shootings, Aeroturn partnered with a glass company to enhance its school security offerings.
