A state accrediting agency has approved new programs in app design and development at Paier College, the Bridgeport-based school announced Monday.

New offerings include an associate’s degree and certificate program in mobile application design and a certificate in web application design, both approved by the Connecticut Board of Governors of Higher Education.

Paier College President Joseph M. Bierbaum said, “As we think about where the needs are in terms of jobs in our region and the types of careers our students are interested in pursuing upon graduation, it makes sense for us to offer programs that focus on the intersection of the arts and technology.”

The mobile app design program will accept enrollment starting with the fall semester; the six-month web app design certificate program is currently enrolling students. Financial aid is available for both programs.

Paier College and The Hispanic Coalition also partnered to create a scholarship program for Bridgeport residents interested in attaining a web app design certificate, funded by a grant through the American Rescue Plan Act.

Connecticut Office of Higher Education Executive Director Timothy D. Larson said, “The approval of these new programs at Paier College will seed the pipeline of talented future leaders in our state by providing our students with additional opportunities to prepare for these in-demand careers.”

Paier, formerly an art school located in Hamden, took over the University of Bridgeport's fine arts and design-related programs last year as part of a deal with Goodwin University.
