CVS Health is now offering booster shots of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to eligible patients at 46 locations in Connecticut, according to company officials.

The health services conglomerate, which owns Hartford’s Aetna, said it will follow eligibility standards set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends or allows for a booster dose for vulnerable populations. That includes people 65 years of age or older; residents in long-term care settings; people aged 50 to 64 with certain underlying medical conditions; and those 18 to 49 with certain medical conditions that put them at increased risk of experiencing a severe coronavirus infection.

In each case, the booster shot must come at least six months after a patient received their first two Pfizer shots.

People who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are not eligible for boosters, following guidance from federal health authorities.

Individuals interested in receiving a Pfizer booster shot are asked to make an appointment through CVS.com or MinuteClinic.com.

The CDC on Friday said it is recommending Pfizer booster shots in accordance with findings from the agency’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. With the Food and Drug Administration deciding against a "mix and match" approach to booster doses, Americans who received the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will have to wait for separate recommendations, which Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has said could come in a matter of weeks.
