Barbara and Ray Dalio and Dalio Philanthropies on Friday announced a $4 million donation to help during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds will be used to help health-care workers and to provide food to those in need, according to the announcement.
Of the total, $3 million is earmarked for child-care services at 26 centers across the state for hospital workers. The money will pay for child care for eight weeks for more than 1,000 children, at facilities close to hospitals where their parents work. The Capitol Region Education Council will administer the program in close coordination with Commissioner Beth Bye and the state’s Office of Early Childhood.
“Ray and I are deeply concerned about these front-line hospital workers, and the additional burdens they’re bearing as a result of this pandemic,” said Barbara Dalio in a press release. “We want to do what we can to make sure they get the child-care services they need so they can provide medical care for others.”
The remaining $1 million will go toward food for state residents. Half of the money will be provided to Foodshare and the other half to the Connecticut Food Bank. The Dalios anticipate that the money will provide enough to feed several thousand people for weeks.
“These are terrific organizations that have spent years helping families by providing them with nutritional meals,” Barbara Dalio said. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to help them since they provide so much help to others.”
