Gov. Ned Lamont’s recently nominated Public Utilities Regulatory Authority commissioner has been elected to chair the regulatory body.
PURA’s two other commissioners -- vice chairman John W. Betkoski III and Michael Caron -- on Wednesday elected Marissa Paslick Gillett, a former energy-storage trade association lawyer from Maryland, to serve as the agency’s chair.
Based in New Britain, PURA regulates the rates and services of Connecticut’s electricity, natural gas, water and telecommunication public service companies.
Gillett, who most recently served as senior advisor for the Maryland Public Service Commissioner, a public utilities regulator, from 2011 to 2018, was nominated by Lamont on April 18 to succeed Katie Dykes, who is now the commissioner of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
The General Assembly must still confirm Gillett’s nomination before the appointments become official. If confirmed, Gillett will serve the remainder of Dykes’ four-year term.
“Fostering innovative approaches to grid modernization is a passion of mine, and I look forward to working collaboratively alongside the dedicated and high-caliber staff and commissioners of the authority to achieve our mission in the most cost-effective manner possible,” Gillett said in a statement.
PURA is administratively held within DEEP and is governed by three commissioners appointed by the governor.
