Reentry nonprofit opens new Manchester facility

A nonprofit focused on helping men returning from incarceration has opened a new residential facility in Manchester.

Second Chance Re-Entry Initiative Program Inc., known as SCRIP, celebrated the opening of its first residential adult re-entry facility in Manchester this week.
    
The nonprofit works with men returning from incarceration to help with transitional supports such as re-entering the workforce and finding housing. The new Comprehensive Adult Re-Entry Program (C.A.R.E.) Development Center is located at 89 Ridge St., Manchester, and its programs are now fully launched.

As part of the organization’s work, SCRIP partners with local and national social service and employment agencies, in addition to community development programs, to provide services for people returning to their communities following incarceration. This includes job interview preparation, counseling, and housing assistance, among others.

In collaboration with another local housing organization TomCat’s Place, SCRIP will be able to provide four beds for clients that don’t have housing options. The organization plans to expand the number of participants to between six to 10 men in the second year of operation.

For the men accepted into the program, SCRIP will pay three months’ rent and provide food vouchers. After the third or fourth month, SCRIP staff will work with participants to obtain employment. Once successfully discharged from the facility, participants would receive support to obtain a room or apartment rental.
