Precision Resource Inc. of Shelton informed state and local officials this week that it is temporarily laying off 51 employees due to the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on business conditions.
Barbara Stellner, human resources manager for the company, submitted a WARN (Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Act) notice to the state Department of Labor and Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti.
The layoff is expected to last two weeks, beginning on Monday, April 6, and continuing through Friday, April 17, but may be extended, according to the notice.
The employees were notified on April 1, according to Stellner. The company indicated that additional notice was not possible due to the “sudden and drastic reduced customer demand resulting from the unforeseeable business circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and unprecedented government actions to contain the virus.”
The affected employees include workers in the press room; grinding; inspection, packaging and shipping; secondary operations; die maintenance; maintenance; quality; office; and tool room.
Precision Resource, at 25 Forest Parkway, traces its roots to 1947. The privately held manufacturer has production facilities around the world. According to its website, the company supplies precision metal components for a range of customers, including in the automotive, electronics and industrial sectors.
