Shoreline Airbnb hosts see income boost this summer

As vacationers have tried to find ways to have fun this summer in spite of the coronavirus, many have looked to the Connecticut shoreline.

Airbnb announced this week that hosts along the state’s coast have seen a boost in income during the first half of the summer, an increase of nearly 25% compared to last year.

The vacation rental company connects hosts with rental spaces around the world. According to the company, most guests haven’t been traveling far, with most nights booked for destinations within 300 miles. Over two-thirds were for travel to destinations within 500 miles, both distances typically manageable by car.

The company reported another trend - most guests are seeking to get away from urban areas. Hosts in rural areas of the United States earned over $200 million in the month of June, an increase of more than 25% over 2019.
