In a time when many banks are closing brick and mortar branches, Guilford Savings Bank is opening one.
Construction is complete on its new 2,000-square-foot branch at the intersection of Washington and Blakeslee avenues in North Haven. The anticipated opening date is March 1, bank officials announced this week.
The branch office is the seventh for GSB, and marks a westward expansion. The $920 million bank currently has branches in Old Saybrook, Madison, Guilford, and Branford. North Haven is centrally located and close to I-91.
Timothy Geelan, president and CEO, said the new branch means more community banking for the market.
“We recognize this as an opportunity to work with the residents and businesses of all sizes and become partners with the community,” Geelan said in an announcement.
Construction began last August. The North Haven facility has a new design and includes a special “customer engagement bar” for interactions. Customers entering the lobby will be greeted by a staff member, who will use a tablet to guide customers to services or products suited to their needs.
Kyle Eagleson, 1st executive vice president and chief financial officer, said the bank identified North Haven as a market with tremendous opportunity for expansion.
Renee Miller will serve as branch manager in North Haven, while Maria Tessitore will serve as assistant branch manager.
“Being part of a community bank is extremely important to me,” Miller said. “There is a true passion for the people.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the branch will initially open for drive-through services, and lobby access will be by appointment only.
