Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. won a $99 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to support the Presidential Helicopter Program, the U.S. Navy announced on Feb. 17.

This latest grant funds products and services needed for simulators and trainers as part of the Navy’s fleet of Sikorsky VH-92A helicopters. When the president is on board one of the VH-92A craft, it is known as Marine One.

Services to be provided include technical analysis, technical reports, trade studies, and retrofit kits, with support from employees in program management, engineering, integrated logistics support, configuration management, system integration lab operation and maintenance, testing support and Federal Aviation Administration certification.

Only about 2% of work under the new contract will be performed in Stratford, with the rest happening at the company’s facility in Oswego, N.Y.

Sikorsky announced last year that it had won a $471 million contract to build six VH-92A helicopters as part of a new 23-aircraft program for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The company is scheduled to begin delivery of the new helicopters this year.
