Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven has been awarded a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).

To earn CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

“We are very proud to be awarded this Accreditation with Commendation,” said Charles Fuchs, MD, MPH, director of Yale Cancer Center and physician-in-chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital. “This unique honor is a testament [to] the outstanding care and commitment to innovation in quality of care and clinical research the entire Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center team advances throughout all of our clinical programs.”

This year, Smilow is celebrating its 10-year anniversary as a state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient cancer care facility — the largest provider of cancer care in Connecticut.

This year Smilow will host some 235,000 outpatient visits for cancer care and treat almost half (45 percent) of the 20,000 patients diagnosed with cancer in Connecticut each year, according to Yale New Haven.
