Business leaders, higher education officials and politicians from across the state met in Hartford this month to launch the Connecticut Workforce Partnership Initiative, a program that aims to bolster employment opportunities across many industries.

Business Roundtable, a national professional association made up of more than 200 CEOs of American companies, hosted an event in Hartford on Feb. 16 with its local partners Accenture and Stanley Black & Decker to announce the goal of preparing an additional 1,500 Connecticut residents to secure high-tech jobs by December 2025, through a talent pipeline from the state’s colleges and universities.

The initiative, which is a collaborative effort between Connecticut businesses, government and higher education institutions, also hopes to result in increased hiring and upskilling at Connecticut companies with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion in the workforce.

Business Roundtable CEOs, like those at Stanley Black & Decker and Accenture, will partner with local colleges and universities to accelerate and scale workforce readiness programs to develop a talent pipeline that meets the state’s workforce needs.

Connecticut’s program is the ninth Workforce Partnership Initiative in the nation. Since 2018, Business Roundtable has helped launch similar initiatives in New York City; Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia; North Carolina; Chicago; Milwaukee; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Texas.
